VCP Resources

Before you begin going down the road of getting the VMware Certified Professional certification, you need to evaluate why you are doing it. If you are doing it just to add another row of letters after your name, please stop right now. Just because you can go study and take a test and pass doesn’t mean you are qualified to be in the “VCP” category. If you are truly into the passion of virtualization, please read on. Now I also realize that some companies require you to be certified to be on their staff. If so, challenge yourself to become knowledgeable in this totally awesome industry and dedicate some real time to furthering the goals if your company and its vision, and read on.

If you are studying for your VCP, the first think you should do is find out what the current blue print is for the exam. That can be found here:

VCP Blueprint

Simon Long does a remarkable job of outlining the blueprint with links to the various documentation. You can find the detailed blueprint here.

Another item to check out is the VMware Mock Exams. Now these are not the real exams, and you wont find any of these questions on the real test but it will give you a feel for what types of questions may be asked. More mock test questions can be found here. What these questions will do for you is promote you to study the information on the blueprint. When you come across a question you are unsure of, go look it up in the documentation. VMware has a great online reference library around both ESXi 4.1 and ESX 4.1. They also have one for vSphere 5. Completely searchable, and easier to hunt through than each document itself.

Forbes Guthrie has an excellent reference for vSphere 4.1 here. A very good study tool when trying to reference minimums and maximums as well as best practices for vSphere. I believe that there is also a full a larger version available on his sight that may be useful for wall mounting.

Let me say this again. READ THE BLUEPRINT!!!!
